![]() The land we recognize today as Salem is Naumkeag, or fishing place, where generations of Indigenous Peoples lived and passed through for centuries. Salem Public School District is committed to maintaining a work and learning environment free from discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, pregnancy, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital/civil union status, ancestry, place of birth, age, citizenship status, veteran status, political affiliation, genetic information or disability, as defined and required by state and federal laws. There will be multiple ways that students, staff, families, and elected officials can be involved. We will engage in citywide conversations about grade configurations, instructional philosophy, and 21st-century learning. This new facility presents a tremendous opportunity for us to unite as a community to design learning spaces that match our educational goals. The Salem community, including our teachers, staff, students, and their families, have long contended with a building that has neither met their needs nor offered the best possible learning environment. Salem has long advocated for this critical capital project, and now, as we look to advance our current school facilities master plan, it is imperative that this project takes place. This support of the MSBA will provide the City of Salem with reimbursement for many costs associated with this project. The MSBA Board voted to accept this recommendation which launched Salem into a comprehensive planning process for school construction over the next five to seven years. On Wednesday, December 21st, 2022, the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) recommended that the City of Salem be invited into the Eligibility Period for a new facility at the Salem High School site. Salem Public Schools New Facility Project ![]() ![]() On Monday, May 8th, at 7pm, we will have a public budget hearing in the chambers at Collins Middle School where anyone from the community can provide their perspective, suggestions, and ideas about our budget. On Thursday, May 4th, Salem Public Schools presented our FY24 budget and recommended funding plan for the upcoming school year with the Committee for their consideration. We hope you and your student will also continue reading to develop a love of books and learning new things. Summer brings opportunities to spend time with friends and family and enjoy the outdoors.
